Adhering to new MIT guidance on K-12 events in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, the OEOP will not offer its residential MITES program this summer, and will expand its 6-month online MOSTEC program.
Cambridge, MA, March 21, 2020 – MIT has been tracking the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) situation daily. With this pandemic rapidly evolving across the US, and the safety of our community as our top priority, MIT has intensified its response. Over the past couple of weeks many events have been cancelled, and all courses and most operations have moved online.
In light of current public health guidance, MIT will not host any in-person K-12 student programming during the summer of 2020, and is encouraging all summer programs to be delivered in an online format.
In adherence to these new guidelines, the OEOP will not offer the MITES program this summer, and will expand the MOSTEC program. We are still assessing the possibility of an in-person conference for MOSTEC 2020 in the fall, as there will be no in-person K-12 events happening at MIT during the months of June, July and August.
Given these changes, all applicants will be considered for admission to the MOSTEC program.
We are deeply saddened that we will not be able to offer MITES this year, and will sincerely miss engaging with students on MIT’s campus this summer. At the same time, we are very encouraged to continue to provide a proven, meaningful academic experience through our MOSTEC program. And, we are excited to support more students than ever before in this 6-month online program.
If you have any questions or concerns, the OEOP team is here for you. We are currently working remotely and available Monday-Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET.
